DOUG BREAKELL – Chairman

Doug BreakellDoug was unanimously elected Chairman in 2014, and is serving his first two year term. He is a life-long Guilderland resident who currently resides in the Fort Hunter area of town with his wife Stacey and his two beautiful daughters Hadleigh and Colette. Doug has been employed for over a decade in the New York State Senate and currently serves as Chief of Staff to State Senator George Amedore.

 

MATT NELLIGAN – Vice Chairman

mattMatt Nelligan is the loving father – of two daughters, Molly and Emily, and one son, Michael – and has been a devoted husband to his wife Jen for 16 years.  Matt and his family have lived in Guilderland for the last several years, but his record of service to our community goes back for more than a 15 years.

From 1998-2008 Matt was an award winning Public Policy Teacher at Guilderland High School.  He created and wrote the curriculum for courses in Advanced Placement American Government, Honors Public Policy and U.S. Foreign Policy.  He was twice recognized by the Golub Corporation as an outstanding area teacher.

Matt has been a leader in the local Irish Community for many years.  Matt is the founder of the Irish 2000 Festival, which is currently in its 14th year in operation.  The purpose of the festival was to raise money to purchase an Irish-American Center in Albany and to raise money for other charitable groups.  Through Matt’s hard work, leadership and determination, Irish 2000 became one of the largest special events in the Capital region, drawing more than 17,000 people each September.  Proceeds from the Festival have helped many local charities including the Wounded Warrior Project, Juvenile Diabetes and the Irish-American Heritage Museum, just to name a few.

In 2007 Matt was elected as the Youngest State President in the 171-year history of the Ancient Order of Hibernians (AOH). The AOH is the largest Irish organization in the United States with more than 15,000 members in New York State alone.  As State President, Matt managed all of the affairs of the organization and was successful in expanding its membership while motivating members to get active on public policy issues.  As a result of his leadership he was selected by the Irish Echo newspaper as one of the top 40 Irish-American leaders under the age of 40 in the United States.  He continues to serve the AOH on the National level as Pro-Life Chairman.

Matt currently works in the NYS Senate as Chief of Staff to Senator Rich Funke. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Siena College and earned his Master’s Degree in US. Government from the College of St. Rose.  He is also a devoted parishioner of Christ the King Church and a member of the Guilderland Knights of Columbus.

 

GREG GOUTOS – Treasurer

gregGreg has been the Treasurer for the Guilderland Republican Committee since 2002.  He is a life-long Guilderland resident, who currently resides in Altamont.  His wife, Nellie, also grew up in the town.  Their son, Kevin, graduated in 2009 from SUNY Cobleskill; and daughter, Corrina, currently attends college in Savannah, Georgia.

Greg has a B.A. in Economics from Union College, and is a recent graduate of SUNY Cobleskill, where he earned a degree in Landscape Design and Ornamental Horticulture.

Previously, Greg was the owner/operator of Karner Video in Cosimo’s Plaza on Western Avenue, Guilderland, from 1986 to 2000.  He was an active member of the Guilderland Chamber of Commerce. Later, Greg worked for the American Red Cross as the Donor Recruitment Manager for Blood Services.He oversaw all the mobile blood drives for a 20 county area of northeastern New York, supervising 7 account managers. Currently, Greg does landscape design and serves as a private gardener for clients in the Altamont/Guilderland area. He also recently worked as a Field Operations Supervisor for the U.S. Census Bureau, where he oversaw a staff of 140 that canvassed the city of Albany for the 2010 Census.

Greg is a dedicated Republican that has served as a Committeeman for District 23 since 2001, and works as an election inspector during Primary and General Elections. In 2005, Greg received the “Guilderland Outstanding Republican” award, given by the Albany County Republican Committee at their annual dinner.

Greg has always been an active volunteer in his community. He currently volunteers for Community Caregivers, a Guilderland-based non-profit, serving as the Secretary for the Finance Committee. From 2000 to 2006, he was also a member of the Board of Directors, serving as Treasurer in 2006, as well as the Interim Executive Director. Greg is a member of Altamont Reformed Church, where he serves on the Benevolence Committee and the Staff /Minister Review Committee.

TRAVIS STEVENS – County Legislator

Travis Stevens is serving his first term in the Albany County Legislature, representing the 31st Legislative District. The district is comprised of Altamont, East Berne, Guilderland Center and Knox. Travis is an Energy Conservation Technical Specialist with the New York State Office of General Services. Prior to his current employment, Travis worked for his family owned and operated petroleum business and in the maritime industry offshore.

Prior to being elected to the position of Albany County Legislator, Travis was appointed to the Town of Knox Conservation Advisory Council and elected to the Knox Town Board. Active in his community, Travis is a third generation active member of the Knox Volunteer Fire Department.

Travis holds a degree in engineering and earned a United States Coast Guard Third Assistant Engineer License from the State University of New York at Maritime College located at historic Fort Schuyler.
